Jesus Healing the Aphasic Man
The miracle of Jesus healing the aphasic man is recorded in three of the Gospels: Matthew (Matthew 9:32-33), Mark (Mark 7:31-37), and Luke (Luke 11:14).
Jesus was traveling through the region of the Decapolis when he encountered a group of people bringing forward a man who was both deaf and mute. The man had an ailment that caused him to be unable to speak or hear. He could not communicate with others in any way.
When Jesus saw the afflicted man, he took him aside from the crowd, away from prying eyes and ears. Then, Jesus put his fingers into the man's ears and touched his tongue with saliva. After looking up to heaven, Jesus sighed deeply and spoke a command to the man: "Ephphatha!" which means "Be opened!"
Immediately, the man's ears were opened, and his tongue was loosed. He began to speak plainly, and those around him were amazed and astonished. They said, "He has done everything well. He even makes the deaf hear and the dumb speak."
This miracle of Jesus healing the aphasic man holds significance in several ways. Firstly, it highlights Jesus' ability to heal physical maladies. His touch and command were sufficient to overcome the man's inability to hear and speak.
Secondly, this miracle illustrates Jesus' compassion and concern for those who were considered outcasts in society. It reminds us that Jesus is the ultimate healer who cares for all people and desires to restore wholeness to every aspect of our lives.
